The Carpinteria Harbor Seal Rookery is one of four remaining rookeries along the Central California coast. The Seal Rookery has posted volunteers, committed to the safety of the seals throughout the pupping season. They are a wealth of information!
Their commitment extends to monitoring rookery activities, ensuring the prevention of any disturbances that may violate the Federal Marine Mammal Act. They also collect valuable data through daily counts of both adult seals and pups, noting any disturbances to the rookery, identifying injured animals, and recording the number of visitors observing the seals.
The Seal Watch volunteers are available from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, seven days a week. Their unwavering dedication underscores Carpinteria’s commitment to preserving the natural habitat of these harbor seals and upholding the standards set by protective legislation.
To protect the seals during their pupping season, the City of Carpinteria enforces a beach closure from December 1 through May 31 each year.
Carpinteria City Beach, situated at the end of Linden Ave is graced with a Southern exposure and is safeguarded by the Channel Islands, it has given itself the prestigious title of the World’s Safest Beach.
