The heart of New York City pulsates with energy, creating a spectacle like no other. Grab your New Year’s Eve glasses and hats and get ready for an amazing party!
Here’s your insider’s guide to navigating the vibrant chaos of spending New Year’s Eve in Times Square:
Start Time:
6pm – As the clock approaches this hour, the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball will ascend to the pinnacle of the pole at One Times Square.
11:59 – The Ball will embark on its majestic 60-second descent down the flagpole, signaling the dawn of the New Year.
Location:
One Times Square, situated at the intersection of Broadway and 43rd Street.
Best Views:
For the optimal viewing experience, position yourself along Broadway, spanning from 43rd Street to 50th Street, and along Seventh Avenue, extending as far north as 59th Street.
New Year’s Eve Attire:
New Year’s Eve in Times Square is a festive affair, but practicality should not be sacrificed for style. Choose attire that keeps you warm and dress in layers. It is supposed to be a low of 36 degrees on New Year’s Eve! Keep the fun as a festive hat!
Arrive Early, Claim Your Spot:
The adage “the early bird catches the worm” rings true when it comes to Times Square on New Year’s Eve. The area fills up rapidly, with a first-come, first-served basis so secure your spot early in the day to ensure a prime view of the festivities. If you leave to go eat, you will not get your spot back. For those aiming to secure a spot in the viewing areas, make your way to the access points at 49th, 52nd and 56th.
Pack Food, but No Alcohol Allowed:
Their won’t be any food vendors along the street, so come prepared. With the wait extending for hours, hydration is crucial and so is food. Pack portable snacks like granola bars and nuts or grab food along the way. But if you leave to eat, you will lose your spot.
Plan Your Bathroom Breaks:
Bathroom facilities in Times Square on New Year’s Eve are limited. In fact, they don’t have any porto pottys. Plan your bathroom breaks strategically and be prepared for long lines. Many restaurants and establishments have strict entry policies, so plan accordingly and be prepared to be charged to use a restroom and you may not get your space back after you leave.
Security Check Points and Searches:
Be prepared to have a wand over your person for security checks. These are the items that are NOT permitted:
Charge Your Devices:
Capture the magic of the night by ensuring your devices are fully charged. A portable charger can be a lifesaver when sharing your midnight moments with friends and family or capturing the dazzling fireworks display.
Live Performances:
Live performances will happen throughout Time Square. Click here for a schedule of events.
