Honfleur, France is such charming small town. It captivated me with its picturesque harbor, cobblestone streets, amazing food and vibrant art scene. What was meant to be a brief visit turned into 48 hours and one of my favorite places to visit in France.
Honfleur, a captivating port town nestled in the Normandy region of northern France, is a place where history, art, and culture seamlessly converge, creating a setting that feels almost too enchanting to be real. t covers an area of approximately 5 square miles and has a population of around 7,500 residents. Nestled along the Seine estuary, just a short drive from the English Channel, Honfleur is small in size but rich in character. Its cobblestone streets, lined with half-timbered houses, lead visitors to the historic Vieux Bassin, a picturesque harbor that has inspired countless artists, including Claude Monet and Eugène Boudin.
The town’s medieval architecture is beautifully preserved, offering a glimpse into its storied past. The Sainte-Catherine Church, France’s largest wooden church, stands as a testament to Honfleur’s maritime heritage, its design reminiscent of an overturned ship’s hull. Nearby, the 17th-century Lieutenance building, once the residence of the King’s Lieutenant, adds to the historic charm, evoking the town’s days as a key port.
