My Storied Journeys

Explore Julian - As Charming As Apple Pie

On a beautiful summer day of motorcycle riding, we found ourselves in Julian. I had been to Julian one time before, but it was for an ultra-marathon, so to say that I spent much time relaxing and enjoying the town, well, just isn’t real. I was excited to get back and enjoy the historic town.

It was like stepping back in time. Many of the original homes and stores are still operational and pay homage to the town’s heritage. From the only San Diego Gold Rush in the late 1800’s, to its award-winning apple orchards, mining, and farming.

Explore Julian - Historic Roots

We stayed and walked around the museum and then took the walking tour, which is so easy to do. They have beautiful plaques posted down the historic streets to help you experience the rich history. As we did, we indulged in pie eating, beer tasting and of course shopping.

Explore Julian - Apple Pie and Julian

Julian is known for many things, but apple pie might be its most notable thing. Julian apples are grown in abundance, and eateries offering pie are in abundance as well. I have had four different pies from three locations. They were all amazing!

Explore Julian - Shopping in Julian

Shopping was nothing short of entertaining. Each store was historic and all themed differently. Some had artisan works that were beautiful and others tourist items to commemorate your trip to Julian.

Explore Julian - Julian has so much more to offer

There is so much more to do in Julian, and worthy of another trip. I was passionate about visiting the camel dairy but was disappointed to find that they were sold out for the day. I will absolutely be back for that tour.

We drove past Lake Cuyamaca and camping and made a stop into Calico Cidery. What a charming and beautiful location. The barn was amazing. My group of eight friends each tried a flight of different ciders and fit around a big old wood table with blanket covered hay bales. Such a beautiful way to spend time with friends. It might have been the highlight of my day.
