Things to do in Troncones

Surf Troncones Mexico

Troncones, a serene coastal village on Mexico’s Pacific coast, is a hidden gem for surfers seeking both adventure and tranquility. Known for its consistent waves and uncrowded beaches, Troncones offers a variety of surf breaks suitable for all levels of surfers, from beginners to seasoned professionals. The surf scene here is laid-back, providing an escape from the more commercialized surf spots found elsewhere.

The main surf season in Troncones runs from May to October, coinciding with the south swell season, which brings larger and more consistent waves. This period is ideal for experienced surfers looking to ride the bigger swells. However, Troncones also offers good surf conditions from November to April, with smaller, more manageable waves perfect for beginners and intermediate surfers.

Surf Troncones

Manzanillo Bay is one of Troncones’ most popular surf spots, offering a right-hand point break that works best during the summer months when the south swells hit. The wave here is fast and hollow, providing thrilling rides for those up for the challenge. The sandy bottom and occasional rocks mean surfers should be cautious, especially during lower tides.

La Saladita

Saladita, located a short drive north of Troncones, is another fantastic surf destination known for its long, peeling left-hand point break. Often referred to as the “wave machine,” La Saladita offers some of the longest rides in the area, making it a favorite among longboarders. This spot is ideal for all skill levels, with gentle waves that are forgiving for beginners yet still enjoyable for more advanced surfers.

For those seeking a more secluded surf experience, Majahua Point offers a quieter alternative. This right-hand point break is less crowded and offers a mellow wave perfect for longboarding. The picturesque setting and tranquil atmosphere make it a great spot to escape the crowds and enjoy the natural beauty of Troncones.

Visit Troncones Beaches

Troncones, a serene beach town on the Pacific coast of Mexico, offers a slice of paradise that remains relatively untouched by mass tourism. Nestled along the picturesque coastline of Guerrero, just 20 miles northwest of the bustling resort town of Ixtapa, Troncones provides an idyllic escape with its pristine beaches, inviting surf, and relaxed ambiance. With miles of unspoiled shoreline, the beaches in Troncones are the main attraction, each offering unique experiences and breathtaking beauty.

Troncones Beaches

Playa Troncones, the town’s main beach, stretches for over three miles, offering expansive golden sands and a backdrop of lush palm trees and rugged cliffs. This beach is perfect for leisurely strolls, sunbathing, and swimming in the gentle surf. The waves here are relatively mild, making it an ideal spot for beginner surfers and bodyboarders. Playa Troncones is also a haven for wildlife enthusiasts, as it is common to spot sea turtles nesting along the shore during the nesting season, which typically runs from June to December.

For those seeking more adventurous waves, Playa La Saladita, known as “The Wave Machine,” is a short drive north of Troncones. This beach is renowned for its long, peeling left-hand waves, making it a favorite among longboarders. The consistent and mellow waves create perfect conditions for both novice and experienced surfers. The tranquil setting, combined with the friendly local surf community, makes Playa La Saladita an inviting destination for surfers looking to refine their skills or simply enjoy a relaxed day on the water.

A hidden gem in Troncones is Playa Majahua, a secluded cove located just south of the main beach. This small, crescent-shaped beach is framed by rocky headlands and offers calm, clear waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The gentle waves make it a safe spot for families with children, while the abundance of marine life provides an excellent opportunity for underwater exploration. Playa Majahua’s tranquil atmosphere is further enhanced by the absence of large crowds, making it an ideal spot for those seeking solitude and relaxation.

Another noteworthy beach in Troncones is Playa Manzanillo, located at the southern end of the town. This beach boasts dramatic cliffs, tide pools, and a rocky shoreline, creating a striking contrast to the sandy beaches found elsewhere. The tide pools are teeming with colorful marine life, making it a fascinating destination for nature lovers and photographers. While the surf here can be rough, the unique landscape and serene environment make Playa Manzanillo a must-visit for those looking to experience the rugged beauty of Troncones.

For a truly unique beach experience, Playa Las Gatas is worth the short boat ride from Zihuatanejo. This beach is named after the nurse sharks that once inhabited the area, although they are rarely seen today. Playa Las Gatas is famous for its crystal-clear waters, making it a popular spot for snorkeling and diving. The beach is protected by a natural coral reef, creating a calm lagoon ideal for swimming.
