The panoramic cityscape was stunning, and while I clung to the railing, he embraced the experience, making it a memorable adventure for both of us.
The Edge in New York City is a breathtaking observation deck offering an unparalleled view of the city’s skyline, and it has quickly become one of the most exciting attractions in Manhattan. Located in the heart of Hudson Yards, a modern development on Manhattan’s West Side, The Edge is the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. Opened in March 2020, it stands 1,131 feet above the city, offering a 360-degree view of New York City’s iconic landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and Central Park, as well as the Hudson River.
The history of Hudson Yards itself is a fascinating transformation of the once-industrial rail yards into a sleek, ultra-modern neighborhood, complete with luxury residences, office towers, and public art installations. The Edge, a symbol of this revitalization, is the crown jewel of the area, providing visitors with a thrilling experience. The triangular platform extends out from the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards, with a glass floor that allows you to look straight down to the streets below—a vertigo-inducing experience that’s not for the faint of heart.

Upon reaching the Sky Deck, the city unfolded in all its glory. The Edge at Hudson Yards is not merely an observation deck; this remarkable outdoor space spans 7,500 square feet, providing an immersive panorama that is suspended 1,100 feet above the bustling city. The angled glass walls provided an unobstructed view, revealing the urban expanse below and the iconic landmarks beyond. The sense of standing on the edge, suspended above the city, was both thrilling and surreal.
The glass floor, offering a transparent pathway above the bustling streets, was another heart-stopping endeavor. While I chose to admire the view from a safe distance, my husband fearlessly navigated the transparent surface, capturing an unparalleled perspective of the city below his feet.
A true highlight is the opportunity to partake in the City Climb, where climbers scale the exterior of a skyscraper, rising more than 1,200 feet above the ground—an experience that transcends the ordinary and leaves an indelible mark on the adventurous soul.
Everywhere I looked, people were capturing breathtaking selfies, suspended in mid-air against the New York skyline. Content to watch and enjoy, I marveled at the collective courage on display. The Edge isn’t just about conquering heights; it’s about seizing a moment that is, unequivocally, unlike any other in the world.
Perched high above Hudson Yards, The Edge offers breathtaking views of New York City, but it’s also conveniently located near some of Manhattan’s best attractions. A short 15-minute walk (or a quick cab ride under a mile) will bring you to Chelsea Market, where food enthusiasts can explore a wide variety of artisanal eats and unique shops, all housed in an industrial-chic setting. It’s the perfect spot to grab a bite after your visit to The Edge.
For art lovers, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is about 3 miles away. A ride on the 7 subway line from Hudson Yards to 42nd Street, followed by a transfer to the C line, will take you uptown. Alternatively, a cab ride will get you there in about 20 minutes. Once you arrive, you’ll be immersed in one of the world’s most impressive art collections, with exhibits spanning thousands of years and cultures.
Just 2 miles from The Edge lies Central Park, the city’s green oasis. You can hop on the A or C subway to 59th Street or take a scenic 20-minute cab ride to reach the park’s vast walking paths, iconic landmarks, and tranquil green spaces, offering the perfect complement to your skyline adventure.
